Description:
Sub-micron roundness measurement combined with low noise surface finish is critical for fuel injector efficiency and longevity. A roundness analysis was carried out on an automotive fuel injector using the Taylor Hobson Talyrond 365. The circumference plot (top image) shows the deviation from form, revealing surface roughness and the presence of 2 scratches which can cause leakage. The scratches are precisely profiled in the lower image once surface form has been removed by software. A scratch is more likely to cause component failure if it is aligned with the component axis. Pass/fail criteria can be programmed and data exported to SPC software.
