Description:
Fresnel lenses give high power (large aperture, short focal length) solutions and are substantially thinner than equivalent performance conventional lenses. They have been traditionally used in low cost applications. Minaturisation and improvements in repeatability, specifications and surface finish enable Fresnel lenses to be used in next generation solar energy systems. Both stylus and optical techniques can be applied for lens characterisation. In this example, critical dimensions such as slope angles, radii, pitch and depth are determined using 3D stylus profilometry.
