Moulded aspheric lenses are used in a wide range of consumer applications, such as mobile phone camera lenses and optical storage devices (CD / DVD). Typically between 1mm to 5mm in diameter, component designs are steep-sided and strongly aspheric to deliver the required optical performance. A Taylor Hobson Form Talysurf PGI 1250 is not limited by component slope, a unique attribute amongst contact measurement technology. This was employed to achieve true sub-100nm form accuracy with 0.5nm Z axis resolution over the full clear aperture of the component using patented Aspheric Data Fusion Software. The images show the raw profile and aspheric form error. The software can also determine a wide range of additional key parameters including SAG error, derived coefficients and astigmatism analysis (Copyright Taylor Hobson).
