Roundness Measurement

Roundness measurement enables quality control of nominally circular and cylindrical products by testing the accuracy of their form. The component is rotated on a highly accurate spindle which provides a circular datum. During rotation, a transducer with ball tipped stylus measures radial variations of the component with respect to the spindle axis. Adding a vertical column datum and a radial arm datum, allows circular traces can be combined to give a measure of cylindricity, flatness and squareness.
