MicroScience Technology Forum: Space Technology 2008 (Nov 12th, Leicester)
An international conference organised by the Royal Microscopical Society as part of the annual MICROSCIENCE Technology Forum takes place on November 12th 2008 at the UK National Space Centre, Leicester.
CEMMNT will be exhibiting at this upcoming meeting which will aim to discuss the wide range of applications of light, scanning and laser microscopy related to research associated with the Space Industry.
Speakers from the UK, Europe and the USA have been invited to talk on topics as diverse as the problems of low gravity environments on bone and muscle development, the problems of lunar dust in the development of space suits, the study of extremophile organisms (bacterial organisms that inhabit extreme environments – the first organisms on ancient Earth, and possibly Mars or Europa!), meteorite impacts and the composition of comet debris (stardust!). #

Micro Manufacturing Live 2008 (Oct 21st & 22nd, Coventry)
Micro Manufacturing is the driving force behind the next industrial revolution for product innovators. By its very nature it is reducing costs, size and weight parameters, and is opening doors in product innovation that were previously deemed closed.
"A brand new exhibition dedicated to Micro Manufacturing!"
Touching on all industrial sectors, from transport & telecommunications to medical & defence, the Micro Manufacturing Live Exhibition 2008 will effectively showcase technologies, materials, and services available for use by manufacturers today who all share a common interest...to make it smaller, lighter, yet with more functionality!
CEMMNT will be exhibiting at the event, performing live demonstrations of a Taylor Hobson CCI Optical Profiler, with sub-Angstrom resolution, to perform rapid non-contact 3D analyses of delegate samples. Please come and visit us at stand B14 with your samples and to discuss your metrology with our experts.
Additionally, Prof Richard Leach from NPL, a CEMMNT partner, will be presenting "Metrology matters in micro manufacturing" at 14:30 on the 21st Oct as part of the event's seminar program.

MNT through Modelling & Simulation Conference 2008 (22nd Oct, Loughborough)
The SEIC at Loughborough in association with the Centre of Excellence in Metrology for Micro and Nano Technologies (CEMMNT) will be hosting the UK’s first conference dedicated to Modelling & Simulation for Micro and Nano Technology on 22nd October 2008. The conference will provide a focal point for researchers, designers, manufacturers and product integrators to address the key issues currently facing modelling and simulation capabilities and developments.
It is confidently assumed that increasing levels of integration across functional domains will become the norm and, hence, design processes and supporting tools (modelling and simulation) will need to evolve to cater for such a requirement. Furthermore, the design process, the product life-cycle and the links across the supply chain will all need to form part of the 'ultimate' design tool. To this end, modelling and simulation tools need to be able to operate across many domains to enable designers to produce systems-based products and services.
The conference will be the first of its kind in the UK to examine these underlying aspects further, allowing those who attend to explore the benefits and possibilities that MNT through modelling and simulation presents.
