New Cleanroom Facility at NPL

A new nested cleanroom facility has opened at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) with an outer Class 10,000 cleanroom and an inner Class 100 cleanroon.

The Class 10,000 room houses three thin film coaters; the Acoustics team at NPL is currently using these for a project on thermocouples. Other facilities include wafer saw - which will be used to dice silicon wafers and to cut sapphire for sensors applications - ovens, a wire bonder and a wafer scriber.

The Class 10,000 room is set up for photolithography activities. The room is equipped with fume cabinet, mask aligner, UV decontaminator, vacuum over, microscope, micro balancer and hotplate. Some of the work carried out in this room includes the preparation of samples for Organic Electronics.
