Personal Care

Nanoparticles and colloids are employed in a range of cosmetic products including sun cream, skin cream and shampoo. Our particle sizing techniques can characterise their size distribution which effects product performance. Transmission Electron Microscopy and atomic force microscopy visualises particle shape and morphology.

The effectiveness of cosmetic and cleaning products on hair and skin can be determined using optical profilometry and atomic force microscopy techniques. Spectroscopic approaches identify residues, contaminants and the chemical effects of treatments.

Increasingly, minaturised delivery devices such as micro nozzles and micro fluidic devices require analysis at the microscale to characterise flow proeprties and biocompatiblity. We can additionally characterise the performance of product packaging by analysing composition, mechanical, thermal, porosity and other key properties.
