Food and Drink

Nanotechnology will play a key role in the food and drink industry. Nanofilters are used to eliminate micro-organisms in brewing and dairy production. Self cleaning packaging materials and cutlery are being developed. Nanocoatings will extend the shelf life of food and nanoparticles will be used as smart nutrient delivery agents.

All these developments require accurate measurement and characterisation at the nanoscale. From determining nanoparticle size and composition to characterising the structural, physical and chemical properties of nanocoatings, metrology is a key enabler.
